Job Description

 The Head of Credit and Risk will be responsible for the acceptance, risk pricing, and exposure position of each and every merchant.  While having commercial acumen to maximize revenue opportunities while still minimizing the exposure to the business. Using all the tools at their disposal and ensuing that current trends and vertical segmentation of merchants is maintained and that policies and procedures are kept up to date

Duties and responsibilities:

• Support the complete ownership of credit risk policies to provide an effective and efficient application of the Credit Policy, risk appetite, credit governance and applicable regulation/legislation
• Lead the development and documentation of Credit Policies ensuring credit capabilities become a key pillar of our overall competitive strategy
• Support all industry, regulatory and card scheme communication on credit risk management ensuring consistency with policy and all frameworks and laws
• Provide expertise of credit exposure
• Support the training and education of all staff and senior executives on governance frameworks, exposures and credit policy
• Drive the credit and risk governance structure ensuring that it is robust and supports an efficient operating model. This should provide an environment for transparent decision making with clear accountabilities, responsibilities, processes for decision making, approvals, risk appetite and noting/reporting
• Being the point of contact for and liaising with the regulators (the MFSA and card schemes). This will include ensuring the company is compliant with all MFSA and card scheme reporting requirements
• Maintain up to date black list checking and credit and risk management tools
• Monitor industry and vertical trends and ensure appropriate changes to  policies and procedures meet the changes
• Ensure credit exposure is managed
• Be a member of the credit and risk committee
• Review the exposure for rolling reserves and cash positions of the merchant base
• Sign off of merchant pricing models including reserve requirements, MSC, and payment terms
• Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in all areas of credit adjudication, policies, processes and risk management

Experience:

       •  Degree (or equivalent) or comparable work experience required.

• In-depth understanding all aspects of credit risk, markets, instruments and leading approaches
• Broad and deep experience in credit risk issues, techniques and frameworks is required, as is experience in modelling and a range of analysis techniques such as variable pricing, reserve calculation, forecasting, market segmentation, and statistical models.
• Clearly and confidently communicates on complex techniques and strategies.
• Act as a mentor to assist training and development of junior team members

Other significant job requirements: 

• Ensure the  roll out of group policies, procedures, compliance manual and financial controls and report on merchant over exposure at the appropriate level where required.  This includes developing, implementing, promoting and maintaining credit and risk policies to minimise the exposure to STFS

Scope of role:

The position will carry autonomy within defined parameters, and the post-holder will be encouraged to take responsibility for decision-making within the strategic plan framework while driving the business forward.
